Stop Accidents and Fundación MAPFRE competition to raise awareness of the importance of walking to school safely

Certamen de Stop Accidentes y Fundación MAPFRE para concienciar de la importancia de realizar el camino al colegio de forma segura

With the slogan ’Now we are walking to school', Stop Accidents and Fundación MAPFRE are rolling out the first safe mobility competition to raise awareness among youngsters of the importance of responsible behavior when walking to school.

The goal is to promote values such as sustainable and healthy mobility on the daily school run. It seeks to encourage families not to contribute to pollution, to do exercise and to use the safest pedestrian routes on the way to school.  If the child is riding a bike, they should be aware of how important it is to observe the rules of the road, such as for example, using pedestrian crossings and stopping at the lights and avoiding dangerous areas like garage exits.

When our young children start going to school they might be unsure how they should make their journey, what the journey by school bus should be like or if they should use child restraint systems on the school bus. We respond to these doubts on our channel in order to offer the best information possible on children's road safety.

This competition, which ends on 16 November, is open to schoolchildren in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Galicia, Castile and León, Madrid and the Valencian Community who are in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade of primary education.

In order to take part, the schoolchildren must write a letter or do a drawing which deals principally with the issues of mobility and road safety and is directed at their parents, classmates or friends. The school should sign up at and and the students should take part in an educational workshop taught by STOP Accidents professionals, where they will learn about safe and collaborative conduct on the roads.

A panel comprising Fundación MAPFRE and STOP Accidents road safety experts will pick a total of seven winners, one for each of the schools that takes part, who will be awarded a bicycle and a bicycle helmet. From among the seven chosen, a national winner will also be picked, who will win a 3,000 euros prize and will use the prize money to take the class on a trip. The school of the national winner will also receive educational materials worth 1000 euros.
