-In vehicles with up to nine seats, including the driver, small children of under 135 cm tall must travel in the back seats in an approved child restraint system suitable for their height and weight. However, from Fundación MAPFRE we recommend using  car seats until the child is 150 cm tall, at which point the safety belt can be properly adjusted.

-There are only three exceptions in which a child can sit in a child car seat in the front of the car:

  • If the vehicle does not have any rear seats.
  • If all the rear seats are already occupied by other children in their respective child restraints.
  • If child restraint systems cannot be installed in the said seats.

-We must remember that in the event that the child is traveling with a CRS in the front seat and  is looking backwards, it is compulsory to deactivate the passenger seat airbag.

-Take the time to install the child car seat properly and secure the child correctly, always following the instructions of the child car seat manufacturer.

-Children should always travel without a coat on or bulky clothing that might affect the safety system. Neither should they wear a backpack or other objects, which should go in a separate area from the passengers, preferably in the trunk.

No matter how short the journey, the child should always travel with the appropriate child restraint system according to his/her height and weight

-You must drive carefully.

-Do not double park. It is recommended that the vehicle be left in an area that is easily accessible so that the child can get in and out of the car without complications.

-The child must get in and out of the car onto the sidewalk  and if necessary, he/she should cross the road while observing any instructions by officers and paying attention to the traffic lights and using the pedestrian crossings.
